What we are wary of
Charity is often an expression of a belief that current injustices will continue forever.
"The poor have long provided cultural currency to the rich. The social attitudes and ideology of elites have understood the getto as a credible gold mine" Gabriel Winant
"The oppressors, who oppress, exploit, and rape by virtue of their power, cannot find in this power the strength to liberate either the oppressed or themselves,"
"In order to have the continued opportunity to express their generosity,' the oppressors must perpetuate injustice as well.
"An unjust social order is the permanent fount of this 'generosity,' which is nourished by death, despair, and poverty. That is why the dispensers of false generosity become desperate at the slightest threat to its source. True generosity consists precisely in fighting to destroy the causes that nourish false charity."
Paulo Friere Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

Who we work with and who we would like to work with
People at the bottom rung of the ladder do not need charity. They need agency
The views portrayed in this website are not meant to be optimistic or pessimistic but realistic. Everything stated here all of these topics is nuanced and judgments need to be made on the merits of anything, people, projects, ideas, to find the underlying meanings and intentions of ideas and propositions. The old adage applies. Believe nothing you read here or elsewhere till you check it out you self.
We do not see everybodie's views as having equal validity here. We will listen and take direction from those in the thick of the struggle against austerity policies and those who suffer most under them and use our energies to help articulate and build models that are orientated to and connected to building support and solidarity towards, not just folk surviving in a broken system, but helping to win struggles to change it.
